BTRFS Podría ser el sistema de archivos por defecto en Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat. BTRFS es un sistema de archivos desarrollado por Oracle y que ofrece unas prestaciones comparables a ZFS de Sun. El problema es que este sistema aun se encuentra en fase experimental y existen dudas de si podrá estar a punto para la nueva versión de Ubuntu.

Si nos vamos al post del hombre perteneciente al grupo de desarrollo de la distro que ha mencionado dicha posibilidad:
1. btrfs would need to not be marked “experimental” in the kernel config; we understand that this is planned for 2.6.35, which is the kernel version we are expecting to ship in Maverick.
2. btrfs is not currently supported by GRUB2 (our boot loader) or the installer; these pieces would need to be finished before Feature Freeze.
3. If that happens, we may make it the default for Alpha releases to gain testing; that testing must go smoothly.
4. The btrfs upstream must be happy with the idea.
5. We must be happy with the idea.

Hay demasiados "podría", "might", "would" y "may". Puede pasar lo mismo que cuando se dijo por primera vez que Ubuntu llevaría Compiz activado por defecto. Al final la implantación fue un año más tarde.

buhh, yo me apostaría un huevo a que no va a estar listo para ubuntu 10.10 con suerte para el 11.04.
BTRFS lleva mucho retraso.
